Position: Youth Ensemble Accompanist
Type of Position: Part-time Employee
Contract Dates: January 1–April 30, 2025
Salary: $2,500

The Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus is seeking an accomplished, reliable, and musically experienced Accompanist to assist with starting a Youth Ensemble within the CGMC umbrella. The newly-formed Youth Ensemble will begin recruitment in November 2024. Following two months of recruitment, the youth chorus will start rehearsals in January with an expected performance in April. The Youth Ensemble Accompanist will also work alongside the Artistic Team for CGMC the Youth Ensemble on coordinating potential outreach performances and collaborative events. The work produced by the position is assigned and approved by the Youth Ensemble Artistic Director (AD).

  • Accompany weekly Monday night rehearsals from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Coordinate with Youth Ensemble AD on rehearsal prep and planning
  • Work with Youth Ensemble AD and CGMC Artistic Team on April Concert preparation
  • Work with Youth Ensemble AD and CGMC Artistic Team on April Concert dress and tech rehearsal
  • Accompany for any sectional or solo needs for the ensemble that are agreed upon with the Youth Ensemble Artistic Director
  • Additional meetings with CGMC Board and CGMC staff may be needed
  • Position works primarily evenings and weekends
  • A minimum of one year accompanying experience
  • An understanding of the GALA and CGMC choral culture
  • A minimum of one year working with youth is preferred
  • Bachelor in music preferred
  • Ability to work with a Director in regards to concert and rehearsal prep

Candidates will be expected to play a prepared piece or sight read as needed for the interview process.

Our mission as an organization is to foster increased recognition, understanding, and acceptance of individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community. We dedicate ourselves to perform vocal music at the highest possible standard of quality, and to maintain an atmosphere of camaraderie, support, and respect for our diverse members and audiences. We create and perform innovative, provocative, and entertaining programs that enhance the arts in Central Ohio, and that honor, preserve, and expand the legacy and artistry of the TTBB choral sound and tradition. We perform in accessible venues and provide ASL interpretation for
our concert season.
Large Chorus: Produces 3 mainstage concerts and several outreach opportunities. Sings between 65 to 95 singers throughout the year. Rehearses Sundays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
 
VOX: An 18-person auditioned ensemble. One mainstage concert and multiple outreach opportunities. Rehearses Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
 
Illuminati: Religious outreach ensemble that performs one mainstage concert and performs monthly Sunday outreach performances for spiritual congregations. Rehearses Wednesdays from 7:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
 
Youth Chorus: A newly-formed ensemble that is being developed and designed throughout the season. Rehearses Mondays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. from January through April 2025.
