The Columbus Queerscendos
Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus (CGMC) is very proud to announce our first-ever Youth Ensemble. The inaugural youth members have named it The Columbus Queerscendos, and will play a role in its programming as well.
CGMC welcomes youth between the ages of 13 and 17, who have all levels of musical experience.

Gabriel Gonzalez
(he/they)
Gabriel Gonzales serves as the Assistant Artistic Director for CGMC’s new Youth Ensemble. Gabriel was born and raised in Xenia, Ohio. He moved to Columbus to attend The Ohio State University, where he pursued a degree in music education with a focus in voice. Additionally, he serves as an elementary school teacher in Hilliard Schools. His CGMC journey began as our Choral Intern in January 2021, where he also became a singing member, and this season also joined our auditioned ensemble, Vox.

Eliza van Kan
(she/her/hers)
Eliza van Kan is honored to accompany CGMC’s Youth Ensemble. She received the Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Towson University, Maryland, and a Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Florida. In her home state, Maryland, she has collaborated with instrumental soloists, choirs, and community theater productions around Baltimore. After moving to Japan in 2017, she taught K-8 music at international schools in Tokyo and performed with the Tokyo International Players as a pianist, music director, and occasional cast member. Now back in the U.S., she teaches elementary music in central Ohio and accompanies the Allegretto and Vivace choirs of the Columbus Children’s Choir.
